Luismi Bone Marrow Transplant and Leukemia

Donation protected
Luis Miguel Nieves is a 32-year-old Puerto Rican (born and rise). Luismi, as his family and friends affectionately call him, is an only child. He is a very loving, family being, with set goals, with established dreams, and with many projects to accomplish. Despite this, and being a very healthy young man, suddenly and very unexpectedly, Leukemia knocked on his door.

In the month of March, Luismi experienced a severe cough that caused him to faint. It did not allow him to move due to lack of oxygen, making it pertinent to go to a hospital’s emergency room. Very shockingly and surprisingly, almost immediately, he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia / Myelodysplastic Syndrome (cellular background abnormality). Thank God, and the ipso facto diligence of the medical team that received him in the emergency room, Luismi was urgently admitted, and in only a few days he was transferred to two other hospitals, achieving Luismi's total well-being, in accordance with his diagnosis. Upon establishing himself in the appropriate hospital, Orlando Health, he was hospitalized for a month, imminently attending his diagnosis, as required. This includes, very responsibly, medications, continuous studies, chemotherapy, constant blood transfusions, among others. During his hospitalization, his main doctor, Dr. Hassanein, and the specialists involved, and very dedicated in Luismi's case, confirmed that Luismi has a genetic mutation that causes his leukemia to be aggressive. Therefore, his condition requires an urgent bone marrow transplant. His expert medical team warned that Luismi would have to take chemotherapy treatment indefinitely if he does not receive his transplant as soon as possible.

Luismi is back home in the care of his partner and his mother. However, as part of the imperative continuity of his treatment, every month, he must enter, again, for a week, to receive his specialized treatment. For this reason, and by medical order, Luismi was disabled to work. Unfortunately, Luismi began this process without a medical plan. However, he has already carried out the process of applying for Medicaid but has not received the long-awaited approval response. By not working or having a medical plan, Luismi does not have the necessary financial resources to cover his hospitalization, treatment and, much less, his transplant procedure, which are vital for him at this time of illness. Therefore, we are requesting the generous contribution that humanity has, and that has always been demonstrated in these cases, since his immediate transplant is essential to avoid further damage to his body with abundant chemotherapies.

Luismi has faced all this battle with great optimism, courage and faith in God. His charisma, humility, hospitality and service to others, being a fighter and hard worker, and above all, because of his big heart, Luismi deserves an opportunity to continue a healthy life with his family who love him and want, along with to Luismi, to see his dreams, goals and projects come true. You can be part of this great achievement; your help is greatly appreciated.
