Lisa and Mil here,

We are heartbroken to share that on the 26th of October, our lives changed forever! Our beautiful Issa was riding her e-scooter home from work. We still don’t know exactly what happened, but she came off the scooter and was found unconscious on the road by a passer-by shortly after.

When we reached the hospital, we were told we had only minutes to make an impossible decision: to let her go, or to agree to emergency surgery to remove part of her skull. We chose to give her every possible chance despite the outcome being completely unknown.

Issa has 6 spent weeks in the ICU and the neuro ward fighting for her life. Every day since has been a blur of machines, tubes, alarms, and conversations no parent or sibling should ever have too have.

Doctors have gently told us that the damage is very severe and the chances of Issa having any quality of life are near non-existent. They have explained that she may never wake or progress from her current state, and that the chances of her waking or progressing are very slim.

We have now had to make the impossible decision of moving Issa to palliative care, to give her the comfort and care she needs to pass peacefully to the heavens. How much time this gives us we are unsure, it could be days it could be weeks. What we do know is time is extremely limited and coming to a heartbreaking.

Hearing that our bright, funny, loving Issa will never be the Issa we once knew is a pain we cannot put into words. We were already grieving who she was and we now need to navigate her not being here at all and trying to make sense of a future we never imagined in our wildest dreams

Mil and I are proud women who dont like to ask for help however as we prepare for the hardest time of our lives, we are now needing and asking for support. We are asking for assistance with funeral preparations and costs as well as relocation costs for not only myself but her sister, Milika. Not only is remaining in my current large home without Issa unbearable, the location of the accident is so close to home and on a road both myself and Mil need to travel daily for work, shopping etc, we are currently having to take unrealistic detours to avoid the trigger. While this works for the short term, it is not ideal for the long term and daily life.

Your support will also help us create special memorial items for her nieces—also known as her besties—so they can hold a part of their Aunty Issa close forever.
