As you are aware, our brother and colleague LUIS CERVANTES passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022. In virtue of the positive, lasting impact that Luis Cervantes had on the College district, the PCC Safe Zone Coalition will honor his legacy in the form of a Luis Cervantes Scholarship, to be awarded to PCC students within the LGBTQ+ community.
We are reaching out to colleagues and friends who were impacted by Luis, so that together we can honor and support current PCC LGBTQ+ students.
Luis remained an advocate for students, and while only 31 years old, he impacted all our lives. His smile and style lit up the room. He remained a co-conspirator, challenging the status quo on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion for our most marginalized and vulnerable students. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Luis was authentic. He was kind, generous, loyal, funny, intelligent, compassionate, self-aware, resourceful, collaborative and above all, stylish. We are all better humans for having the honor and privilege to know him and to have worked alongside him.
He provided a voice for the students, organized PCC’s inaugural Lavender Graduation Celebration in Spring 2019, and was integral to welcoming our trans community at PCC. We anticipate presenting the inaugural Luis Cervantes Scholarship at the 2022 Lavender Graduation Ceremony on Apr 28, 2022.
Your contribution in any amount is greatly appreciated. May Luis rest in eternal peace, and may his spirit continue to live in each of us.
In solidarity,
