Luis Arguello-Farfan’s Legacy

Luis Arguello-Farfan was born on July 10, 1968 in a small town named “El Salitre” in Michoacán, Mexico. He was the oldest male in a family of 8. As a young kid he loved to ride horses and hang out with his grandpa Salomon. He hung out so much with his “Pa Mon” that he adopted the demeanor of a grown man even though he was just a little guy.

His family eventually moved to the city where he met his wife Hortencia in Morelia, Michoacán. They lived on the same street and spent much time together as 12 year olds. Eventually they got married and decided to move to the United States in search of a better future.

Luis came to this country with only a dream. He worked for everything he had, not taking handouts from anyone. Luis and Hortencia eventually established roots in Riverside, California in 1992 after purchasing a home. They had 3 children, all boys. They were dubbed the “Three Amigos.”

Luis accomplished a long time goal of opening up his own business towards the end of his life. Even if it was short lived, he enjoyed every second of those last four years. He always worked hard to provide for his family. If he didn’t know how to do something he would jump in and figure it out himself. He was a great D-I-Y’r. He found joy in working with his hands.

Luis was diagnosed with prostate cancer on February 17, 2025. He bravely battled cancer through various treatments. Even in between chemotherapy treatments he would go to work. Over time, his prostate cancer proved to be aggressive and slowly overwhelmed his treatment efforts. He chose to spend his last days in hospice at home surrounded by family and friends. Luis passed away on April 10, 2026 in the comfort of his home. He was at peace.

This account was set up to help cover the remaining burial and service expenses. Any remaining funds will be given to his wife, Hortencia to help with this difficult transition. The younger version of Luis would object to a campaign like this, but the wiser Luis valued and understood the power of community thanks to his extensive involvement in AA over the last 10 years of his life.

During difficult times like these people often want to do something to help. More than anything we ask for your prayers. If you would like to do more, you can donate here.

Thank you.
