Lucy's Community Kitchen

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to worsen in the United States (and New Orleans in particular ), one of the greatest issues at hand is mounting food insecurity for millions of people. At Lucy's, we believe in doing good while being good, and we are committed to supporting our community and helping the citizens of New Orleans address their most immediate needs during this unprecedented global event.

In the face of country-wide business interruptions and closures, many hourly workers (especially workers in the hospitality industry) have seen their income dramatically reduced and are expecting financial difficulties in the coming weeks, and possibly months, if they cannot maintain a normal work schedule. They are going to have a hard time buying food for themselves and their families, which will further compound city-wide food shortages as non-profits, food banks, and faith-based organizations attempt to feed thousands of homeless and low-income citizens - many of whom are elderly and homebound.

Lucy's wants to support our city in two ways:

1) Provide low-cost meals to anyone who needs a warm plate of food. Every day, Lucy's will offer several different to-go community meals at a discount (priced at the cost of ingredients). If a guest cannot afford to purchase the plate, we will happily provide it free of charge.

2) Donate meals to hospitals, first responders, government employees, community centers, non-profits, and faith-based organizations who are working tirelessly to keep our city safe, healthy, and fed.

In order to accomplish this, we are asking our loyal Lucy's family for help. 100% of funds raised will be used to purchase food, condiments, and to-go packaging for community and donated meals.

Since we began our Community Kitchen project on March 19th, we have provided almost *200 community meals* and donated another *500 meals* to the following public workers and beneficiaries:
*Touro Hospital ER
*Ochsner Operations Team
*NOLA Tree Project/Second Harvest
*New Orleans City Hall
*New Orleans First Responders

Every day, we spend between $300-400 on ingredients and other inputs for our community and donated meals (approximately $5,000 over two weeks), and anticipate scaling over time as the need increases. We will adjust our campaign and needs as the data comes in and promise full transparency throughout this entire process. Thank you for your support!
