Lucy's Fundraiser - Physio & Adapted Vehicle

Donation protected
Update: Lucy is making amazing progress thanks to all the incredible donations. The physio is working and she's moving her left hand now which is life-changing for her. We would love to get her more and get her out and about in an adapted vehicle or campervan - we originally thought £10K would cover it, but we realise we might need a bit more to get her what she needs or to even get a small campervan which would be very fun for her. Your donations are making such a difference and we are so grateful for anything you can do to help us reach our new target!

Original message:
This is my beautiful niece Lucy. She’s 2 and just over 18 months ago she nearly died from a huge brain tumour and very large cyst in her brain. After multiple surgeries, long stints in PICU then months in the high-dependancy unit, she still has 35% of the tumour left in her brain and she has been left with a multitude of subsequent health challenges. Because of the tumour and all her surgeries, Lucy has significant damage to her brain. This has resulted in her losing a lot of her sight, and movement on her left side. Lucy is also unable to speak or communicate right now, although we live in hope that one day she may be able to learn. She's also unable to eat and is fed through a peg.

Lucy's currently receiving 70 weeks of chemotherapy, which seems to be stopping the tumour from growing. Lucy is here right now though and we want to do everything in our power to give her the best quality of life possible.

Whilst the NHS has been amazing and saved her life numerous times, the options for intensive physio are somewhat limited and my sister is on a relatively low income, so private options are not available to her. My sister has found a private physiotherapy service that offers her real hope for improving Lucy’s quality of life. This costs £4,000 per round. This provides the intensive work Lucy needs to help her brain to relearn how to activate the left side of her body. Until now, she hasn’t been physically well enough to do this intensively and this kind of therapy is not available on the NHS.

Because Lucy has spent a huge chunk of her life inside a hospital, my sister would like to get an adapted van so they can go on adventures together and experience all this magical world has to offer. The van will be a safe haven for Lucy and enable my sister to transport all her equipment and medication. We think we could get something safe and suitable for around £15,000 (revised amount).

We’re fundraising for a round of intensive physiotherapy in the first instance and we’re delighted to have met our initial £4K target (huge thanks all! X). We are continuing to raise funds for Lucy and our new target is £20K to enable us to buy an adapted vehicle.

Lucy loves Miss Rachel, cats, music, cuddles and exploring. She’s desperate to move her body and she’s trying so hard to communicate verbally and get out there in the world - we think this physio stands a really good chance of helping her, even if it is just to move a little more.

I believe that this physical therapy will bring Lucy and my lovely sister joy and lord knows they both really deserve some of that after the 18+ months they've had!

Despite all the world has thrown her way, Lucy smiles a thousand times per day, has never complained and she fiercely loves everyone around her. It’s clear that she really wants to live and we want her to have the chance to move and play like any other child.

Thank you for getting this far. If you’re able to give, even a small amount, and share this page widely, it really will make a difference and help to improve Lucy’s quality of life. Please share and thank you so so much for anything you can do to help beautiful Lucy.
