Lucy's hip dysplasia treatment
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
Below is my original post, but as Lucy's pain has become worse and we've had follow-up scans done, I am posting an update:
We found out that Lucy needs a total hip replacement within a week if possible. This is because she has a fracture in the growth plate that didn't show in the initial x-ray, and the head of the joint has deteriorated. This means the ball of the hip joint is deteriorating and may crack off from the neck of the joint if surgery is not performed ASAP. If we don't have the surgery performed within a week or so, and the head of the hip joint cracks off from the neck of the joint, a hip replacement may not be possible, and until we have the hip replacement performed Lucy will be in increasing pain and increasingly immobile.
My heart is breaking at this news, and as I type this Lucy is resting beside me crying in pain, despite having pain relief and having rested all day
Please, if you can, donate or share our story! Every share and donation, no matter how small, helps!
Thank you again, from the bottom of our hearts! ❤❤❤
Hi all,
I'm Dani and my puppy is Lucy. She was rescued from a shelter after she was found on the street as a 10 week old pup. She is so full of love and life, and loves nothing more than belly rubs, playing with her family and puppy pals, swimming, and, of course, yummy treats!
Sadly, she has been diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia after a collision during play time at the park which left her unable to walk on her hind leg and in lots of pain. The vet thought her hip must have been broken in the collision, but x-rays showed no fractures only bad hip dysplasia which has left her prone to hip damage and pain. This means she won't be able to run and play like she loves to, and, being a staffy mix, she has unlimited energy and missing out on play time and zoomies is really hard for her. She is still a pup, and as her mumma I want nothing more than for her to live a happy, healthy life doing the things that bring her joy.
I have a chronic illness and am unable to work full time, and I'm heartbroken that I can't do everything and more to make my pup's life as joyful as possible. I am doing the best I can I the last thing I wish to do is ask for help, but it's not for me, it's for my beautiful baby girl.
I believe that God will provide whatever we need, and if there is anyone who is able and willing to help us I will be eternally grateful.
The surgery Lucy will need to live her best life without pain or disability will cost around $12,000 in addition to hydrotherapy to strengthen her hip both before and after surgery. I am praying for the minimum necessary to be able to afford this surgery for Lucy and am doing everything I can to come up with the funds myself, however it seems impossible due to my circumstances. Any help is appreciated more than you know, and if Lucy could talk I know she would say the same.
Thank you with all my heart to anyone who is able and willing to help us in any way! Blessings and love,
from Lucy and Dani
