A Fur babies mom.
My name is McKayla and I want to share with you our story.
On November 7th, Lucy was not herself. She was shaky and her temperature was extremely low she didn’t want to eat or move. I took her to the ER, the Dr said she needed surgery because her spleen had ruptured. She was bleeding internally hearing “the odds aren’t in our favor” was super disheartening. I stayed all night until she was out of surgery, my brave girl looked so beautiful when she was done with surgery even though I could tell she was in pain. From 6 PM till 4 AM I slept on the floor, I did not care. I wanted to be there because I know just my energy was giving her hope. Dogs are extremely spiritual beings. I went in the next day because I knew she couldn’t thrive being in the hospital environment.
After the waiting game of 2 weeks we found out the Histopathology. It came back as Hemangiosarcoma. If anyone does not know what this cancer is, it’s the most deadly cancer to a dog. Rarely do dog owners notice until it suddenly happens. The cancer is often found where there are rich blood supplies. Like a spleen for example, or tumors inside the body.
This news was heartbreaking for me. Typically Canines with such cancer live longer with chemo (by a few months). So we made the difficult decision that chemo was the route we wanted to take. Because having Lucy around longer is a blessing in itself.
With all the research and amazing stories I have read, there has been miracles. Lucy IS a miracle and I believe with dedication and giving her the best quality of life. It will help her thrive even more. Turkey tail Mushrooms have known to help prolong a dogs life and is safe to take while on chemo. Along with other supplements. I am so lucky to have her here today. I have spent $15,000 so far just from surgery and test results itself.
Chemo is about $800 a shot every 3 weeks. Chinese medicine is about $200 and up. Depending on the circumstances. We start taking her in to do more holistic work this week.
No one ever want’s to see a loved one in pain or to lose that love one. I am a dedicated mom and I believe she can overcome this disease and to give other pet owners hope and to not give up.
Please donate or share if you can. I have never been in such a hard situation before in my life, and I have accepted that it is okay to ask for help.
I will keep you all posted on her journey.
