Hi, my name is Sophia Bogan and I’m organizing a fundraiser for my aunt Lucy Jean Sumrall Bogan. My aunt has been diagnosed with a condition called pulmonary hypertension, meaning that the walls of the pulmonary arteries becomes so thick that the lungs have trouble regulating blood pressure and, therefore, makes it difficult to breathe along with other detrimental symptoms. Ever since COVID-19 became a major pandemic, my aunt has been relying on her oxygen tank to supply air during all hours of the day. One cannot fathom the idea that the body can somehow stop providing the one function we need to stay alive, yet this is the struggle my aunt has to face. Having to endure the pain of her condition, Lucy still manages to be the most hardworking, selfless mother, educator, and advocate for charity there is. She balances her profession as a teacher with the duties of a mother and does so without hesitation or complaint. She is the most compassionate woman I know and the fact she has to endure this breaks my heart. One won’t ever understand the expression “heart of gold” until they meet my aunt and are captivated by her charming nature and moving eloquence. Now Lucy Jean Sumrall Bogan faces the most difficult challenge yet: having to go through endless hours of surgery in the hopes that she may alleviate the burden of pulmonary hypertension. She’s in need of money to cover expenses such as plane tickets from Venezuela to Miami, hospital bills, food, transportation, etc. since her insurance no longer covers these. The expenses will also cover the care of her children while their mother is off in another country undergoing excessive treatment in Jackson Hospital. Hola, mi nombre es Sophia Bogan y estoy organizando una recaudación de fondos para mi tía Lucy Sumrall Bogan. Uno nunca entenderá la expresión “corazón de oro” hasta que conozca a mi tía y quede cautivado por su naturaleza encantadora y su conmovedora elocuencia. Ahora Lucy Jean Sumrall Bogan se enfrenta al desafío más difícil hasta el momento: tener que pasar por interminables horas de cirugía con la esperanza de poder aliviar la carga de la hipertensión pulmonar. Necesita dinero para cubrir gastos como boletos de avión de Venezuela a Miami, facturas de hospital, comida, transporte, etc. Los gastos también cubrirán el cuidado de sus hijos mientras su madre se encuentra en otro país sometida a un tratamiento excesivo.
