Lucy Is Now Bionic
Donation protected
Lucy is our 8 yr old German Shepherd rescue. She is also a member of the family, our source of unconditional love, ultimate face-licker-cleaner, and most often an immovable trip hazard.
Right after Christmas, our family took a short trip up to the mountains with friends and Lucy was having a blast enjoying all the new sights and smells.

She bounded down a hill at TOP doggy speed and jumped over a hedge not knowing that there was a 5-6 foot drop on the other side. There was a loud yelp and then painful limping. Turns out, she suffered a "hyperextension injury of the radiocarpal joint" to both her front paws. These torn ligaments require surgery.

In order to correct this, "the cartilage from the entire joint is removed and the carpus is stabilized with a bone plate or sometimes two plates and screws. A bone graft (bone harvested from the shoulder on the same side to provide cells and healing potential) is placed at the arthrodesis site to stimulate healing."

(catches breath)
TWO LEGS - DOUBLE THE COST
UPDATE 3/1/19: She has successfully completed surgery of the left foot/wrist and is recovering in the hospital. The second surgery will be approximately 6-8 weeks later.
There is no other way to say this than, WE NEED HELP. The cost of both procedures is a HUGE hit to the Howard family.
With hat in hand, we humbly ask you to please donate what you can.
Thank you.
