Lucy Charlotte

September 17, 2017 was a miraculous time for our family. An unexpected blessing, the birth of a new baby girl for Susan, Zak, and Emily.
Lucy Charlotte, born 4 weeks early, but healthy made her appearance into our world.
One morning 6 weeks later, Susan noticed a sudden onset of fever and lethargy. Off to the E.R. for a septic work up.
Suspicious of meningitis, Lucy was admitted to the NICU in critical condition.
Diagnosis was later changed to sepsis. Multiple labs-and cultures, 2 lumbar punctures, CT scan, platelet tranfusions and a PICC line was placed for multiple IV antibiotics. She was not well enough to eat for a number of days.
It was touch and go for awhile. Thank God and many prayers, the infection was caught early. After more than two scary weeks in the NICU isolation, she was finally home .
Diagnosed with Grade 5 right kidney malfunction, she will require multiple urology visits, frequent labs and probable  surgery to be determined after an ultrasound.
Although they do have some insurance, they have substantial out of pocket payments both this year and next along with expenses not covered by insurance.
Susan and Zak did not want me to ask for help but finally allowed me to reach out.
Through this difficult time,it was obvious how much love and support surrounded our family.
