Lucy Burnett and Bobbi Westbrook have a dream of running the ultimate race for thoroughbred aftercare. The dream is to ride in one of the world’s longest and toughest horses races in the effort of raising money and awareness for the long race thoroughbreds run in transitioning off the track to new careers. The Guacho Derby is a 500 kilometer horse race across Patagonias wilderness that demands the ultimate endurance and horsemanship from its riders. Lucy and Bobbi are preparing to test their skills and raise money for Second Stride and Pirates Promise. These are two organizations that connect retiring racehorses to their next calling.
Second Stride is a Kentucky based non-profit that rehomes thoroughbreds transitioning off the track. They work tirelessly to ensure they find the perfect fit in their next home, from pasture buddies to sport horse careers.
Pirates Promise is a new, grassroots non-profit based in Louisiana. They are dedicated to the rehab and repurposing of thoroughbreds to give back to the community with events, counseling, and horse love!
This mission is dear to both Lucy and Bobbi, since they have both grown up on the backs of off the track thoroughbreds. The goal is to raise $4000 for these two organizations. Please help them along the way as they strive to give back to the equine communities they’ve lived in.
About the riders:
Lucy Burnett is a Kentucky native with roots all throughout its horse country. She spends her time providing equine bodywork for horses on and off the race track as well as managing a barn of primarily OTTBS who work as Eventing and fox hunting horses for Irene and Dinwiddie Lampton.
Lucy strives in her career as an equine bodyworker to educate owners on the importance of maintaining and managing a horses muscular health - especially those transitioning careers. She often leaves owner with homework for increasing range of motion and improving core strength, a critical part of building a strong, sound equine.
Bobbi is a Kentucky native with over 25 years of equestrian experience, mostly in the discipline of three-day eventing and, more recently, foxhunting. She grew up on the back of OTTB’s who will forever hold a special place in her heart.
She's also a homeschooling mom of two young daughters and a nurse practitioner certified as a Wilderness First Responder. Bobbi is deeply driven by a passion to inspire other mothers and daughters to set—and chase—their own big, bold goals.
In preparation for the monumental Gaucho Derby in 2026, Bobbi completed the rigorous Gaucho Derby Academy training camp in 2024, gaining the skills and mental grit required to face the wild, rugged terrain of Patagonia.
Currently, she’s training two young horses: one OTSB for local endurance races and the other OTTB as a future eventing and foxhunting partner.
