Lucky’s Emergency Vet Costs

On Tuesday, May 13th, my baby boy had to undergo emergency surgery for a complete GI obstruction due to an intussusception of his small intestine. Basically, a portion of his small intestine folded into itself. This happened suddenly, the evening of Saturday, May 10th, and for no apparent reason as far as we’ve been able to tell.

After multiple vet visits and days of not knowing what was causing him to be so sick, his life-threatening condition was finally diagnosed on Tuesday, May 13th through an abdominal ultrasound. From here, I brought him straight to the DMV Centre, where he was immediately taken into surgery, which involved removing the folded portion of his intestine which had become necrotic by that point. He was then hospitalized for 2 days post-op so he could be closely monitored, and I’m happy to report that he is now home and on the road to recovery.

As some of you may know, I am now only a week away from completing my studies and officially being a vet tech. That being said, I have only been able to work part-time while being a student for the past 3 years, and everything I make goes towards rent and living expenses. Despite this, this cat led me to where I am today. After years of uncertainty about what I wanted to do with my life, he is what led me to discover what I consider to be a calling to help animals like him. I owe him this.

His vet bills added up to a grand total of $8800, which included the multiple vet visits and diagnostic testing leading up to his diagnosis, his emergency surgery (enterectomy) and the 2 days of post-op hospitalization that followed, and all of his medications and treatments.
