Lucky Lucy Short Film

This Western tale follows fearless gunslinger "Lucky Lucy" on her quest to collect the bounty on the infamous troublemaker, Don the Runner. After an unexpected turn of events, Lucy fears that her luck has run out.

Hi, my name is Gary Jackson or Gary Jay for short and I am the Writer and Director of filmTOY Studios short film "Lucky Lucy".  While Detroit, Michigan is our home, we are fundraising to film in Los Angeles, California. This film means a lot to me because many people have been asking for black representation in a film that doesn't involve slavery or excessive trauma and it gives us the opportunity to create and tell stories beyond limitations. I chose a western due to the fact that there aren't many (if any) cowboy films with an all-black cast. This film is to show that black characters don't belong in a box and that we can finally see ourselves as the characters and heroes we dreamt of as children.

Our production company filmTOY Studios was created in 2019 by my co-CEO Miles Reuben. Our mission is to create films that represent the underrepresented. Such as the black, brown, indigenous, people of color, and LGBTQ+ communities. Our previous short film NILE went on to receive 10 nominations and selections from festivals such as The Micheaux Film Festival and the Lonely Wolf London International Film Festival, as well as 1 win from the Argo Film Festival for the People's Choice Award for best experimental film.

$12,180: Pay cast and above the line crew, travel, and lodging for members traveling from Detroit to Los Angeles.
