Update  24/09/2022

Lucies brain surgery couldn't have gone any better, it went perfectly well and the neurosurgeons were able to remove all of lucies tumour, we are over the moon...

few days stay in alder hey on observation and recovery before treatment date and start... Doctor told us we have to relocate back to Manchester for more proton beam treatment so looks like another temporary relocation for life saving treatment...  going to be a hard time with 4 children but we did it once before we will do it again! Please help support lucie and our family at this difficult time

Wouldn't care if we needed to go the moon... We will go anywhere to save our hero!

So much to do in the next few months for our beautiful little liverbird but for tonight all our lucie needs is rest, recovery, lots of love and cuddles

Thankyou to everyone who has donated prayed hoped and sent messages with well wishes for lucie we appreciate it more than you will ever know!

This post is so difficult to write, but this is the reality of childhood cancer and September is childhood cancer awareness month and also the month lucie had her 5th 3month MRI scan and meeting with her neurologist.

We received the news no parent wishes to hear, it’s an unimaginable horrendous feeeling! we was told lucies (rela positive ependymoma) brain cancer had returned and that she will need more surgery and treatment to beat this horrible cruel illness!

That is another craniotomy (10 hour brain surgery) on 22nd September and a course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, lucie had a new form of treatment the last time round known as proton beam therapy, which only offered once on the nhs so that’s why this time lucie will receive different treatment…

We pray to god that hopefully this treatment will do what we need it to and help our beautiful brave courageous lovely little warrior lucie Joan recover!

Cancer chose the wrong chick to have a rematch with! lucie is a mighty little fighter with a heart of gold! She worked so hard last time we all witnessed it first hand, she has promised to do it again and we have every faith that she will kick cancers ass AGAIN!

Come on everyone show your support for our little liver bird lucie Joan

all your positive vibes worked wonders for her last time let’s do it AGAIN!

No child should lose their freedom no child should be afraid to die and have to fight for their lives it’s evil I don’t understand how life can be so cruel but my baby is a walking miracle and I know she will be there ringing that new big gold bell at the end of this round too, with a smile on her face and sass in her heart!

It is with a heavy heart we are sad to announce our beautiful brave smiling soldier daughter Lucie Joan Thomson who is just ten years old, has been diagnosed with ependymoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain tumour and cancer on 30th March 2021.

This was discovered through a emergency visit to alder hey hospital arranged during an eye test at the opticians on 23rd March 2021. The amazing optician noticed swelling within the disks behind lucies eyes and fast tracked lucie to a&e, where we was welcomed by nurses and rushed straight into a ct scan and MRI scans, soon after the scans were complete the doctors noticed a large abnormal golf ball sized tumour located on the right frontal lobe of lucies brain and informed mum of this.

Due to the covid restrictions, only one parent was allowed in with lucie at any time so receiving results like this was heartbreaking for both parents as well as lucie not having both her parents by her side for support! The doctors then told us lucie had to receive a life saving operation within 24 hours to save her life and release the pressure built within her brain. The surgery took 7 long hours to perform and went as successful as we could have wished for, but Lucie since has had to undergo lumber puncture produce and the following Tuesday 30th March 2021 the consultant told us that lucie had a very rare and fast acting aggressive form of cancer called ependymoma which only affects just 2% of the British population who are affected by cancer.
Lucie is currently having a treatment plan designed and tailored to her needs and will receive treatment for the foreseeable future. This includes travelling long journeys to unfamiliar cities, times spent away from family, out of school and away from her 3 loved sisters Lacey Holly and Heidi! This will be a tough journey for lucie and our whole family but she is admirable and such a little soldier with a smile that lights up the room as soon as she enters!
Please help support lucie on her journey and raise awareness for us for her and the fight against this cruel barbaric disease. In a split second our whole lives was turned upside down and we still don’t have any clear path for our future, we have never asked for anything from anyone before this but we ask you to support our beautiful daughter lucie Joan, This girl has been through so much in her lifetime and this just tops it off!

Mummy and her daddy just want to make this journey as positive happy and as enjoyable as we can for Lucie and for her sisters she is our strength and we our her shields
