Lucid dreaming coaching for scientific research!

My name is Dr Denholm Aspy, and I'm a scientist and expert in the field of lucid dreaming. I'm raising funds so I can develop effective techniques for learning lucid dreaming. This will make lucid dreaming easier for people everywhere to learn, and will allow psychologists to explore its many potential benefits. In exchange for your contribution, you'll be offered one-on-one lucid dreaming coaching via Skype! I can help you learn to have lucid dreams, overcome obstacles if you're getting stuck, and help you make the most of your lucid dreams. You can ask me anything you want about lucid dreaming, and if I don't know the answer, I'll do my best to find out. In the sections below, I explain what lucid dreaming is, why this research is important, and describe my own research experience and goals. What are lucid dreams?

Lucid dreaming is when the dreamer knows they are dreaming while the dream is still happening. Lucid dreams can be truly amazing experiences and can feel just as real as waking life. Lucidity also makes it possible to control the dream, making it possible to have virtually any experience imaginable - you can fly through the sky, visit fantastic worlds created by your own mind, and do pretty much anything else you can think of!


Why is this important?

Lucid dreaming has the potential to improve people’s lives in many ways. For example, lucid dreaming shows great promise for treating recurring nightmares, and uniquely allows the sufferer to take control of nightmares in real time by changing the nightmare or even deliberately waking up. Lucid dreaming has been used by elite athletes to improve their skills by practising them while dreaming, with several studies showing that this can improve strength and coordination. Lucid dreaming has also potential applications in overcoming phobias, processing grief, creative inspiration, problem solving, self development, and many other areas.

Nearly 40 studies have been done since the 1970s on techniques for learning lucid dreaming. However, most report low success rates of between 3% and 13%, and most people find lucid dreaming very difficult to learn. Until we develop more effective techniques, lucid dreaming will remain on the fringe of psychology and inaccessible to most people. Very few scientists are doing research on lucid dreaming and the number of published studies has steadily declined over the years. We need more research in this area, but unfortunately, I am now one of only a small number of scientists working in this area.

My research experience

When I first started my PhD in psychology, I was concerned by the widespread problems in previous lucid dreaming studies - most had very small participant numbers, unreliable measures, and were not published in scientific journals, among other issues. I placed a heavy emphasis on promoting high quality experimental research, and my recently published National Australian Lucid Dream Induction Study is now the largest and most sophisticated study of its kind. The results were very exciting: people had lucid dreams on 17% of nights, and 53% of people experienced lucid dreaming at least once within only a single week! My research goals for 2018

The research I do is on techniques known as cognitive lucid dream induction techniques. These are mental exercises that anyone can do. An example is the widely practised MILD technique . The research I do involves large-scale experiments that investigate ways to make these techniques more effective. I've already started an even larger and more ambitious international lucid dreaming study, and I plan to analyse data and publish findings from this study in 2018. I also have plans to design studies on lucid dreaming as a treatment for nightmares, and to investigate supplements that can improve lucid dreaming like vitamin B6 and Galantamine. My dilemma is that it’s extremely difficult to get funding for my research. This is because I’m not yet ready to explore clinical applications of lucid dreaming, which is what funding bodies are most interested in. Therefore, I’m reaching out to people who see the value in lucid dreaming for help. I already have the qualifications and the expertise – all I need now is funding so that I can continue my research. In exchange for your contribution, you'll be offered one-on-one lucid dreaming coaching. Not only does this give you something valuable in return, it also gives me additional experience teaching people lucid dreaming. This helps me learn more about lucid dreaming techniques and gives me more ideas for my research, which ultimately helps make lucid dreaming more accessible for everyone. Lucid Dreaming Coaching

People vary widely in their sleep and dreaming tendencies, and it can take quite a bit of trial and error to find an effective, personalised approach. For this reason, lucid dreaming coaching is an ideal way to learn lucid dreaming. I have extensive experience teaching both in university classrooms and as a private tutor, and I have a passion for helping people learn new and exciting ideas! I can give you tips and techniques on how to have lucid dreams, help you overcome obstacles if you’re getting stuck, and help you come up with strategies for controlling, prolonging, and getting the most out of your lucid dreams. You can ask me anything you want about lucid dreaming, and if I don't know the answer, I'll do my best to find out and get back to you. For every $25 that you contribute, you will be offered 15 minutes of lucid dreaming coaching via Skype. This works out to a similar hourly rate to what other lucid dreaming coaches charge, but you'll also be supporting my scientific research as well. Coaching is an optional reward, so if you simply want to support my research without receiving coaching, or if you want to donate less than $25, that's fine too. Please note that you must be at least 18 years old to receive coaching.
