Recovery for Baby Luciano & Mommy
Donation protected
Hi, our beautiful and brave cousin Cecilia lives in Ecuador and suffers from a rare disease Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APLS). She survived a miracle this weekend after she gave birth to sweet Luciano at just 36 weeks. APLS occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks some of the normal proteins in your blood. It causes blood clots to form within your arteries. APLS also causes pregnancy complications, such as miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature delivery. Ceci was told that it would be highly unlikely that she would be able to get pregnant and even if she could that it would put her life in danger. When Ceci realized she was pregnant (miracle!), she knew how much of a risk she was taking on her own life, but she instantly fell in love with the little baby in her belly and fought her entire pregnancy to stay healthy and strong for both of them.
When Luciano was born, the family was thrilled. Then, just 2 hours after the delivery, Ceci began to lose consciousness. They opened up her wound and realized she was bleeding profusely internally. Because of her illness (APLS), she was taking blood thinners to prevent clots which meant she was bleeding more than an average person would. After 7 hours of surgery, they found a ruptured artery around her uterus. Her uterus was removed and the artery was closed but she had already lost a life-threatening amount of blood. She is still undergoing blood and platelet transfusions. Against all odds, she has fought to survive to hold her baby Luciano in her arms. Already the hospital bills are over $15,000 out-of-pocket and the last thing we want is for her to have anxiety over paying those bills. She needs to put all of her energy into recovering and being the most beautiful and loving mommy to her baby Luciano.
Luciano is doing well and he and his mommy are still in the hospital as she fights to recover. Any amount you can donate will go a long way to helping this beautiful new family on their journey to recovery.
