We are the “barn” family of professional horse trainer Luciana Solari, who is battling two aggressive types of breast cancer. She is in this fight with her signature selflessness and concern for her clients, horses, husband and their dogs over herself.

Luciana was diagnosed with breast cancer about four weeks ago, nonetheless showing up to the entire summer series with a smile on her face every minute of each hot 12-hour day, despite what she knew she faced days afterward. She underwent surgery on July 20th, only to find out that she will need another surgery on August 2nd to remove additional cancerous lymph nodes, followed by six months of chemotherapy, radiation, physical therapy and extensive follow-up care.

Luciana and her husband Mariano Bedoya's livelihood, love, and business lies in running their hunter/jumper show barn in Elizabeth, CO. As a self-employed team, this unexpected turn of events is financially crippling and will directly impact their careers for an indefinite period of time. Mariano and Luciana have worked seven days a week to build their business, and are always there to support everyone else's needs. Now it is our time to help them.

The horse community does such a wonderful job coming together to support our own. Luciana is well known in this community for her ringside demeanor— kind and patient without exception—as well as her focus on the well-being of the horses. Her work ethic is tireless and comes from the heart.

Many have asked us what they can do to support her. The best way to bring some degree of relief is to contribute to this fund, which this barn family has put together (Luciana needed much convincing) to help cover medical expenses and the loss of income that comes with a diagnosis like cancer—particularly when self-employed and self-insured. She is originally from Argentina, and far from home in this frightening time.

It’s time for us to lift up this selfless and gentle woman in her most difficult moment, just as she has stood beside us and encouraged us in ours.
