Hi, I’m Jackson Pippert, and I’m fundraising for Lucha de Libros, the literacy initiative I founded after returning home from serving in Chile. During my time there, I saw firsthand how many children lack access to books and meaningful opportunities to develop strong reading skills. Those experiences stayed with me, and over the last six months I have been working hard to build Lucha de Libros into a program that can help change that.
Lucha de Libros strengthens school libraries in under-resourced communities across Latin America and runs team-based reading competitions that make reading exciting, social, and measurable. Our program uses a specialist-curated book list and a structured tournament model to help students not only read more, but want to read more.
For the past six months, I have been fundraising primarily through grants and institutional channels, and we have been deeply encouraged by how well our mission has been received. Thanks to this support, we have already begun partnering with educators in Santiago, connected with schools across Chile and South America that are eager to participate, and assembled a small team of volunteers and advisors.
However, the interest from schools has been greater than we anticipated. We now have more schools wanting to join our program than we currently have the resources to serve. Although we have raised initial funds, we do not have enough to guarantee books and materials for all the schools that want to participate in our first launch.
That is why I am starting this GoFundMe.
This fundraiser will help us close the remaining funding gap so we can expand beyond the original number of schools we planned for and meet the real demand we are seeing on the ground. Reaching this goal will allow us to:
- Provide hundreds of high-quality, culturally relevant books to underserved school libraries
- Equip additional schools that have expressed interest across South America
- Launch our first round of team-based reading competitions in the coming months
- Conduct rigorous evaluation to measure improvements in reading volume and comprehension
We are close to being able to launch, and this final support would ensure that every school that wants to participate, and every child who needs these opportunities, can be included.
If you’re able, I would be truly grateful for your donation. Any amount helps and goes directly to books, logistics, and program implementation. And if you’re unable to contribute right now, simply sharing this fundraiser with others who care about literacy and opportunity would mean a great deal.
Thank you for supporting our effort to open doors for young readers and strengthen school communities across Latin America.
