Lucas Shoffner; Help for a Hero

Hey friends and family. , We have created this platform as a way to support and assist Lucas and Nicole, and as a much needed and appreciated plea for prayers as Lucas Shoffner is hospitalized and battling some very serious injuries following an accident on Monday, August 1st.

Lucas and Nicole were struck by a full size pickup truck while they were attempting to repair a chain on a small dirt bike. Nicole was struck and luckily escaped with only a small fracture in her hip and a lot of road rash. Lucas, who percent saved Nicole’s life by shoving her to the side, took most of the vehicle strike. He was left unconscious on scene and subsequently taken to UT Trauma. He’s currently in TICU and has been diagnosed with a brain bleed, a fractured skull, multiple facial fractures and has a blood clot in his main artery in his neck. Currently they have intubated him and placed a central line in him as well as a “bolt” in his skull to help relive inner cranial pressure. This is our biggest prayer at the moment. If the inter-cranial pressure reaches a certain threshold, they will have to perform more invasive intervention. At the moment, however, and as no surprise, our warrior is holding strong.

It is imperative to state; Lucas is not an ordinary man. Lucas has served his country faithfully in the United States Army, his community fearlessly as a Sheriff’s Deputy, and still continues to serve in a contracted capacity. He truly is a red meat-eating, Harley riding, God-fearing, American loving, gun-slinging, wife-adoring, patriot. Lucas exemplifies what it means to simply be alive to the fullest.

Lucas has some major challenges to overcome, and Nicole is beside him in TICU. This will be a long road for both of them. Lucas’s injuries are severe, and he remains our constant prayer, but Nicole’s injuries are anything but minor. She is unable to stand without grueling pain, and currently can’t walk without assistance. Despite that; she refuses to leave his side. If you know them, you know how madly in love they are, the best of friends that they are, and you can only imagine how difficult this is for Nicole to sit helplessly and wait.

Lucas will be out of work for an undetermined but certainly lengthy period of time. Nicole is a reserve deputy, current member of the Air National Guard, and runs a phenomenal salon/beauty service, but is both unable, and unavailable to work as she is caring for Lucas. These funds will quite literally buy them the time they need to heal, the time they will need together as Lucas adjusts to whatever the “new normal” might be, and will serve to alleviate one stressor as they face the challenges ahead.

Let’s start praying for our buddy. If anyone is deserving of a second chance at life, it’s this guy. He’s kind, he’s loyal, he’s funny and he’s as strong as a damn ox. Everyone has said the same thing when they learn of his injuries… “He doesn’t deserve this”. He is the greatest of us all. What he DOES deserve, is to be flooded with the love, compassion, prayers, and generosity of our collective communities.

Nicole’s sister, Chandler beautifully adds, “ If anyone knows Lucas and Nicole, they know how much love they have for one another. They are the perfect example of strength, commitment, compassion and unconditional love. Both of them are such special people with tender, kind hearts. God is holding both of their hands right now. Please pray for the both of them, especially Lucas as they fight for their healing and strength. They both have a long road of recovery ahead of them and any amount of time they can spend healing together, without worry, is precious time. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers. I love you both more than words.”

You got this Lucas and we are behind you and Nicole every step of the way!
