Lucas & Sara: Apartment Fire Relief
Sara and I have been through a lot the past two years. To make a (very) long story short, we were separated by the US-Canadian border for 7 months because of the pandemic. Now that she’s back, we finally had a place together. We were only able to live our life together for 2 months before it was taken away. Moreover, as she’s an immigrant waiting for her working papers, she’s unable to work. I myself am working two jobs to pay our bills and to pay for my schooling.
On July 11th at 2 am, two separate fires started in our apartment building. I noticed the first one as it was right outside our living room window, and luckily was able to put it out myself. The second one was in the back of the building, and ended up burning for a few hours. If we had not been awake to see the first one, we would have lost everything, possibly even our lives.
As we look to what our next steps will be, a few friends suggested I create a GoFundMe so that they could help us while we are in limbo. If you have read this far, thank you for listening to mine and Sara’s story. Any amount helps and is immensely appreciated, but please do not donate outside of your means. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Stay safe and be well.
UPDATE: both fires were started intentionally. I can’t fully express the emotions involved in being a victim of arson. Thank god there were no casualties, but it’s still so hard to process why someone would want to take away our home and try to kill us.
UPDATE: we have disabled donations as we’re far past our goal. Thank you all so much from the bottom of our hearts!!
