Lucas Miles Van Wormer Legacy Fund
It is with broken hearts that we share that our dear 19 year old son, Lucas Miles Van Wormer, our “Solider of Light” left this world on March 2nd at 2:33pm. Lucas thrived for 14 ½ years with the debilitating lung disease, pulmonary hypertension. We took him to the ICU about 10 days ago battling a PH event that proved to be insurmountable. His heart and lungs gave out.
Marina and I have been inundated with the outpouring of support from friends, family, colleagues and PH community supporters, as we navigated his journey at ICU and forthcoming funeral arrangements.
We have established a CaringBridge memorial site, https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/lucasvanwormer
If you are so inclined, you can support a gofundme... BUT more importantly, you could also make an impact in other ways to benefit children impacted by rare disease like Lucas.
There are ways to help (at CaringBridge) with direct support links to causes Lucas and Marina and I passionately cared about including:
Camp Del Corazon - a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides year-round camp experiential opportunities for children faced with the challenges of growing up and living with heart / lung disease. This was Lucas' favorite place. Please ensure to denote "dedicated as a gift in memory of Lucas Van Wormer."
Stanford University Lucas Van Wormer Memorial Fund - (Lucas Legacy Link) The amazing PH doctors at Stanford have collaborated with phaware on a groundbreaking research study to monitor a person's Pulmonary Hypertension and determine their quality of life through the DynAMITE Walk. Talk. Track. app, which leverages apple watches. They have established a fund in Lucas' name to support this important research validation study. In the special instructions/other designation box, note Lucas Van Wormer Memorial Fund. There’s also a place for people to note that the gift is in memory of Lucas.
Phaware Global Association - our 501(c)3 nonprofit that continues to create innovative technology and to raise global pulmonary hypertension awareness through engagement and innovation as we forge a new course to a cure. Please ensure to denote "in memory of Lucas" in the Tribute/Special Instructions.
Also, we will continue to add photos to the Gallery section including his amazing artwork that fills our home. What we really ask is that you visit the CaringBridge page to share your well wishes and messages on how this young man touched your lives.
THANK YOU. BLESS YOU. WE LOVE YOU!
Sincerely,
Steve & Marina Van Wormer
