Luca's life with aHUS

Luca happens to be the son to Justin Nevill and Brianna Beaudry.. As each of us parents know it's never easy when your child is sick for a week with the flu let alone a life long journey of treatments. I'm starting this fundraiser to help Luca's mom, Brianna, stay off work and take care of him, as treatments happen every two weeks. Please read on for more information on Luca's rare condition.

"No words to express how grateful we are for the exceptional care Luca is receiving from the doctors and nurses here at McMaster Children's Hospital. Their gentleness, compassion, and expertise is unmatched. We are so blessed.
On thursday our happy, healthy and active little man became exhausted, pale, loss of appetite, bruising easy and vomiting after this continued into saturday we knew it was time to make it to the doctors, as soon as we get to the walk in clinic the first thing the doctor said was we should make our way to McMaster Childrens Hospital.
On saturday night, we heard a sentence no parent would ever want to hear mixed in with their childs name, 'we are looking at possible Lukemia or he is having problems with his kidneys'. What we thought was just a simple flu or virus turned our world upside down. After xrays, ultrasounds, tons of blood work, poking, prodding, many doctors, 2 blood transfusions and waiting what felt like FOREVER; finally today we have answers, Luca has been diagnosed with the potentially life-threatening ultra-rare blood disease, atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS). Luckily we have caught it early enough, tonight he starts his first of many intravenous infusions. Infusions will continue every 2 weeks and each dose costs $7,000, this is for life.
Luca has been a champ through all of this, exhausted but managing. We cant wait to have our boy back to his happy self.
