Lucas Kromminga Leukemia Battle
Donation protected
Lucas has been struggling with on and off sicknesses for the past month and a half. We started to see it get worse as of last Sunday, February 18. Stopped walking, stopped eating, lethargic, not the Lucas we know.
We took him to the doctor on Monday and he wasn’t running a fever or sick. They noticed his belly was quite bloated and could feel his spleen. They ordered a chest X-ray to see if heart or lungs were enlarged. No problem with heart and lungs (even though he is on breathing treatments right now to get over prior sickness).
Thursday he was not feeling better, if anything he was getting worse each day. He had a routine blood draw that day scheduled and they said to check for celiacs disease. As they were doing these blood draws they found his platelets were incredibly low, 11,000 (normal is 150,000-450,000). They sent us in again that same night to confirm these numbers and by 4 hours later his number had dropped to 6,000. When it is that low you can bruise easy and spontaneously bleed. This shows up as red specks which Lucas has.
With all of this being said, they had suspicions of worst case scenario and their suspicions were correct. As of Friday, February 23 Lucas has been diagnosed with leukemia cancer.
We will find out more in formation in terms of type and next steps. We will keep you updated. Colby, Christina, Lucas and Leah
