Lucas Explores the Arctic and Beyond

We became a family of 5 when we adopted a sibling group of 3 children - all have complex trauma. Our eldest son Lucas was unable to cope in a school setting and so we home educated him, allowing him a very bespoke learning path. During this time Lucas found a love for the outdoors, nature, climate change, mountain biking, climbing and most of all for exploring. It was evident that we had a very bright, inquisitive little boy when given the opportunity to learn in a way that suited him.

 

We will be doing everything we can in order to nurture and facilitate Lucas’s passion to become an explorer. With the aim for Lucas to gain permanent paid work once qualified. 

 

Lucas can struggle with his mental health and could easily choose the wrong path in life (as Adoption Statistics often show). He needs a focus and a direction, something that he can do that he is passionate about. He deserves the opportunity to shine and to succeed.

 

in April 2023 Lucas will spend six days sailing with The Island Trust and will gain a beginners RYA sailing qualification, he will start and end in Plymouth.

In February 2022 Lucas headed to The Arctic for a survival week. During his week away experienced freezing conditions, developing resilience, he built igloos and snow caves. He cross country ski’s, tracked animals and went husky dog sledging.

In order to allow Lucas these experiences and opportunities we will be seeking to raise money to help with costs. We have already held a Comedy Quiz and raffle and will be holding future events too.

This is just the start of his journey and it is from here that we are seeking funding from larger sponsors, grants and philanthropists.

Finally, I think it worth mentioning that leading us to this point Lucas has had some positive contact with AdoptionUK, previously featuring in our local news for fundraising efforts and as an outcome of that AdoptionUK have included a bio of him in a published book. They have agreed to support this effort where they can. Please be assured we are doing everything that we can to ensure that this plan becomes a reality.
