Luca’s Bone Marrow Transplant

Hello, My name is Mikayla I am fundraising to help with costs during my son Luca’s Bone Marrow transplant Scheduled for 4/13/24. Luca was born what seemed to be healthy! He was a big baby 2 weeks late. By the time he was 18 months old he started getting sick ALOT and he was even thought to possibly have cancer due to some wonky blood work. Thankfully he does not! But what they failed to find was that he has congenital Neutropenia which now they see on all his blood work ever taken. It took just over 6 years to finally get this diagnosis which they’re impressed that he didn’t get more severely sick than he already was in those 6 years. Last year at the end of July he was admitted to the hospital with Necrotizing Pneumonia which was very severe and almost cost him his life. This pushed them to get his diagnosis and FINALLY take me seriously when he gets sick. He was originally set to have his transplant in February 2023 but the Doctors decided they wanted to try one more medication, an injection, to see if maybe we could get his body a little more healthy. Unfortunately that medication has not helped. He will need to get a bone marrow transplant to cure this, he is currently on multiple Daily/weekly medications that severely ruin his daily well being and has taken so much from him.

While he is admitted at UCSF in San Francisco we will be spending 8-12 weeks in the hospital. Then we will have to live locally for 3 months post discharge

This fundraiser is to help with gas, food, housing, bills, ETC while we’re admitted and the time being until I can go back to work.

Luca will have to remain out of school, childcare, or even the public for a minimum of 6 months so I won’t be able to return to work either. This will take a huge financial toll on us.
