My name is Roger Matros and Luca Montesi was one of the warmest and most out-going, accepting people I have ever had the fortune to meet. He was genuine, selfless and a great friend, not only to myself but also to people all over the world.
His boundless enthusiasm for life was infectious and inspired numerous people over the years to pursue their own dreams. His death in May, 2020, was devastating to those who knew him and his passing has left a hole in the world that may never close.
His greatest passion was flying, and he called the island of St. Martin home. The flying school where Luca was trained has graciously offered space to place a memorial bench dedicated to him in front of their building. It will be a simple and lasting monument to a life that was lived to the fullest and which we all seek to remember.
Luca's Memorial Bench will face the gate where I, and many of Luca's friends from SXM and all over the world, entered the French side airport to take an aerial tour of this and other surrounding islands.
Your donation will help to purchase the bench, cover shipping to St. Martin, as well as cover the construction costs to set it in place. Any proceeds remaining from the fund will be donated to the School of Choice in Haiti, where Luca visited. He loved traveling there and the students loved his lessons on airplanes and the science of flight!
We are hoping to raise the funds by January 1 in order to ensure that the bench is delivered by March. We then will set a date for the dedication ceremony and we hope that many of you will be able to travel here to take part.
Below is an example of what the bench will look like. The backrest will have an engraved inscription that will be unveiled at the dedication. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me via Facebook.
