Lucas and the Ferguson family

Hi my name is Marcia Takasaki, and I'm fundraising for my nephew Lucas Ferguson. Lucas is an amazing 15 year old who is facing what no kid should face: osteosarcoma and metastasized lung cancer. Lucas was diagnosed with cancer in his hometown of Kelowna, BC at the end of August 2024, after having a sore ankle. The diagnosis came as a complete shock and has turned the Ferguson family's life upside down. Lucas and his mom Kimberly are staying at the Ronald McDonald house in Vancouver as Lucas is being cared for at BC Children's hospital. Lucas' sister Olivia will be joining Lucas and Kimberly at the end of November for the remaining 7 months and she will be doing schoolwork remotely. Shawn is holding the fort down in Kelowna and managing a busy work schedule to provide for the family. Shawn tries to visit Vancouver as much as possible to be with his family.

This journey has been grueling on the family as they've had to pivot in so many ways. The challenges they are up against are many. The Ferguson family is so grateful to have so many amazing friends and family that have stepped up to help out in so many ways. Your love and support means the world to them in their time of need. Lucas has access to BC Children's hospital which is a gift in itself as the hospital is wonderful in so many ways. We want to continue supporting the Fergusons as they face the unknown in the months ahead. Being sick is expensive and the extra costs of travel between Kelowna and Vancouver are starting to pile up. There is a need for a more ergonomically correct wheelchair for Lucas- that Kimberly will be able to maneuver without straining her back. As you can imagine there are lot of unexpected expenses that come up in this journey of recovery. We'd love it if the Fergusons had one less thing to worry about.
