Hi, I want to tell the story of Luca Schrader.
Luca was born prematurely. The family was fearful that he would not survive the birth at 25 weeks, weighing only 15 oz., but he did! He made it through many different medical adversities and multiple hospital transfers. His family was at his bedside constantly and witnessed how he fought all the obstacles that kept coming his way. The bad news was overcome with good news, and Luca's family held on to the promise of better tomorrow because he spoiled his family by always rebounding from dire situations. His family knew the odds were against him, but they all took strength from him and joined his crusade. His mom and dad called him their fighter, as they fought with him daily. Every day he was with us was a gift! His family started to look to the future, even understanding that he may have some delays or deficits that he would need to catch up on. His family accepted all this, knowing he would fight through it like the true warrior he was. What a treasure it was for his mom, dad, and later grandparents to be able to hold him in their arms! It was such a joy to hold him and look at those long eyelashes, bushy eyebrows, and beautiful head of hair! He resembled his big sister Mazie, and we dared to imagine him being as active and mischievous as she grew up.
But even the fiercest warriors need their rest, and with heavy hearts, we watched him lay down his sword for a much-needed respite. We are still grateful to have this opportunity to have had him for the short time he was with us.
Luca's parents Trent and Tyler, have been dealing with the stress of having a critically ill baby. This has not been easy for them. They also have a rambunctious toddler, and this has been beyond difficult. It is obvious to everyone where Luca got his strength and resilience from, his parents! Not only were they present for Luca driving 2 hours one way every day to see him and advocate for him, but they were also present for their oldest child Mazie.
Please consider helping this family as they grieve the loss of their child and are now faced with the many hospital bills that are a constant reminder of what life could have been for Luca!
