Hello, my name is Thuy Vu.

In January 2021, my family was overjoyed when my baby sister, Linh, and her husband, Isaac, announced that they were pregnant!

In September 2021, they welcomed their baby boy, Luca Pease.

Unfortunately, not long after Luca's birth, the doctors discovered that he had two heart murmurs, and while they had hoped that this would resolve itself, it didn't.

In the course of 4 months, Luca has made a dozen visit to the hospital, has had countless of echos for his heart, has had to get his weight checked every other week, making a trip to the pediatrician and cardiologist every week. Luca was not able to gain weight because it was too straining for his heart, so in December 2021, he was admitted to the hospital to have feeding tubes put in.

Although we had hoped that his murmurs would miraculously disappear, they didn't. Thus, Luca had open heart surgery on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. His surgery went well and he is currently recovering in the ICU.

If anyone is familiar with how insurances work, our max deductible and max out of pocket pay resets with the calendar year. Because most of Luca's hospital visits occurred in 2021, these numbers did not carry over to 2022, so his medical bills have been on the rise.

As new parents, adjusting to life with a newborn is already hard, but to see Linh and Isaac have to endure more than what most parents do, the least I can do is to help them alleviate any financial stress possible for Luca.
