The Russell Activity Center project started off with a large donation from the estate of Lee and Natalie Russell to Lake Tanglewood Community Church. Natalie was an advocate of physical education and was honored at Amarillo College for her work with students. A community-wide steering committee was formed to discuss how Lee and Natalie would be most honored and recognized. Everyone on the committee agreed that using their money to renovate the old court area and transform it into an indoor/outdoor activity center that could be used by both the church and the community would be a fitting tribute.
The current Russell Activity Center (RAC) plans include impressive indoor and outdoor amenities, including resurfacing of the outdoor tennis and basketball courts; addition of a pickleball court; golf car parking; covered seating near the basketball and tennis courts; new fencing and lighting; and 24/7 accessible indoor restrooms. The crown jewel of the project will be a 45’x100' building containing a 45'x25' combination youth room/event space and a 45'x75' indoor gymnasium for basketball, walking, and other sports and events.
Residents can be assured that there is forward thinking involved with this project and the church is working in conjunction with the Village and LSIOT. Arrangements are in place for cleaning and maintenance and funds are being set aside annually so the courts can be resurfaced every 5-7 years. There are also commitments of future funds for utilities. The RAC Steering Committee has taken time to refine the design, thoroughly research alternative building materials, and solicit bids. This is a Lake Tanglewood community-wide project that is certain to be a lasting feature of this great neighborhood.
This is where we need your help!
We’ve already received and raised $490,000. We've had several donors request different additions to the RAC such as possibly artificial grass for movie nights on the lawn and we're still a little short of being able to do that. Also, the original building plans were pretty bare-bones so we'd like to make some upgrades to those and build a repair and upkeep fund to keep the RAC from ever going back into disrepair. Other items that weren't originally scoped such as park benches around the facility could be added with more donations as well. Please help us raise an additional $10,000 and we'll make the RAC the best FOREVER facility!
We have completed the final design for the Donor Wall and still have a few tiles left to purchase if you'd like to have your name on the wall of this great project forever!
To raise money to cover these costs, the RAC Steering Committee is offering members of the Lake Tanglewood Community a chance to be a part of making this project a reality. On the south end of the RAC facility, there will be a prominently displayed donor wall. Donors have three levels to choose from:
· Builder -- $250 -- 4” x 8” tile (SOLD OUT)
· Founder -- $1,000 -- 8” x 8” tile (2 LEFT)
· Cornerstone -- $5,000 -- 12” x 12” tile (1 LEFT)
You will get to decide on how your name or family name will appear on your tile (the donation dollar amount won't be on the tile). Please feel free to donate outside of these levels: If you donate $10,000 you will get two 12"x12" tiles on the Donor Wall.
How to Give
You can safely give online through GoFundMe or mail or drop a check off at the church or Tanglewood office. We will provide a receipt for all donations. Please head to https://tinyurl.com/racdonorwall to fill the form out for what text you would like on your tile.
These kind of opportunities don't come along very often. We won't likely have another chance to do something like this in our neighborhood. We all love Lake Tanglewood, and this is our one opportunity to do it right. Let’s do this!!!
All funds given through GoFundMe will be deposited in the Russell Activity Center checking account and used to finish this great project. Money received will be spent on RAC finishings such as paint, flooring, electrical, and plumbing.
