Lt(N) Stephen Tomlinson get his book published

Hi! My name is Stephanie Tomlinson, wife of Stephen Tomlinson. Stephen is a Lieutenant in the Canadian Navy and he has a very important story to share!

In 2017, Stephen was diagnosed with metastatic testicular cancer (choriocarcinoma) By the time it was discovered, it had spread into his lungs, lymph nodes and brain. He was given a less than 10% chance of beating the disease. Over the next 2 years, and at the advise of his therapist, Stephen began to keep a journal. He began by retelling moments from his life and time in the military solely to leave something behind for our young children (7 and 4 at the time) He wanted to leave them something that would allow them to really know their Dad once he had passed. We prepared the kids for the worse, planned his funeral and got affairs in order. By the grace of God, amazing medical science and extraordinarily intelligent doctors, Stephen beat cancer! Now we’re on a new journey!

Once Stephen returned to work in 2019, he decided to edit his journals into a book. During our time at the BC Cancer centre, we heavily relied on support and resources offered. We quickly noticed there were only a handful of books geared towards male dominant cancers and the male perspective on the journey. The woman’s section was very large, between 8-10 feet of book shelves loaded with resources for women facing cancer. While this is wonderful for women facing this horrible disease, men need the same support. This is where our goal and his dream began.

In 2020 we decided to self publish Stephen’s book in hopes of getting his story out to as many people as possible, raise awareness about early detection and military service related cancers. We were thankful for the support from friends and family and were able to print 500 copies of the book. After receiving glowing reviews, we knew we had to do more. This is where this gofundme comes in.

We have been in contact with a publisher who is very interested in Stephen’s book. They have the connections to get his book onto websites like Indigo, Barns and Noble as well as direct to consumer publishing. Publishing a book is expensive and our little family needs some help with that. We are hoping this first round of donations will get the ball rolling and get this book out to the masses.

Please consider helping Stephen achieve his dream and show other men that they are not alone in their cancer journey. Thank you! xo
