Danika Keyser's Leukemia Fund

On Monday February 2nd, Danika went to the pediatrician with a low grade fever. Testing revealed that her spleen was enlarged, and some additional testing was going to be done to determine if she had Mononucleosis (mono). The pediatrician sent her home with instructions that if she suffered any pain to go to the ER because the pediatrician was worried that her spleen could rupture. Amber and Jerod took her to the ER at 9 PM when Dani complained of pain. By 1 AM Tuesday morning, they were able to determine her spleen did not rupture, they ruled out mono, and unfortunately gave Amber and Jerod the devastating news that Danika had Leukemia. At 4 am Tuesday, Danika was transferred to the Spokane Children’s Hospital’s Oncology ward as an inpatient. Wednesday at 11am a spinal tap was performed to determine the exact chromosome to treat the specific Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. Danika is taking two forms of oral (one pill, one liquid) chemo medication. Her white blood cells started at over 280K, they were down to 199K last night. Normal white blood cell count is 10K, she will be released to go home when they are able to get her white blood cells down to 50K and determine that she is tolerating the medicine. Once she is released she will have to return to Spokane daily for vitals to be taken. The family has a $5,000 deductible on top of all the coinsurance costs that will come with treatment. I am sure that 10,000 won't cover it all but it will help. Thank you to everyone for all your support, thoughts, and prayers.
