San Francisco residents displaced by Haight fire

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Jackie, and I'm starting this GoFundMe to support my longtime Lower Haight neighbors displaced by the three-alarm fire at Haight and Divisadero (Phuket Thai building) on August 31, 2022.

Thirteen residents were displaced, including artists, immigrants, people with disabilities, and senior citizens who have lived in this rent-controlled building for decades. Many of them were already living precariously on fixed incomes before this horrible event.

We've learned that the Red Cross is providing funds for a couple nights' hotel, and after that, folks are largely on their own. It's possible that building contractor or landlord insurance may cover some damages for renters, but the process of working that out will take months. Several residents will run out of options well before then, because they were already barely able to pay very low rent-controlled rates.

This means that more than one resident is at a high risk of homelessness. These are lovely, kind, and generous folks who have contributed much to the life of the city and neighborhood over the years, and they simply don't deserve this.

We're aiming for $65,000, or roughly $5,000 per resident (to be distributed based on need - not all residents have the same need for support). Any funds raised will go to Orion Kellogg, my good friend and a building resident since 2005, who will route support to his neighbors.

EDITED the above to reflect 13 people displaced instead of 12; upped the goal from $60,000 to $65,000 to try to get to $5,000 per person. Thanks all!
