Loving Lulu - Puppy Mill Survivor

Tax deductible
Meet Lulu. Luly is about 6-8 years old and is the face of a neglected and abused puppy mill momma.  Many of you who follow Randall's Rescue, have come to know Lulu and her baby, Izzy, and come to love them both.

Lulu has been to hell and back. She really has had nothing but neglect and poor health her entire life.

Lets give you a glimpse of where the momma dogs live at a puppy mill. A cold, dark, unheated SHED with cages upon cages STACKED to minimize expense and maximize space for puppies. 7 day feeders so they don't have or get any human interaction for days on end. Urine and feces all over the place. Just them against the world.

This yorkie momma dog whose only purpose in life was to breed and have babies, only to have them ripped away from her while she suffered , was  going to be killed because she literally could not produce babies anymore. Want to know why she couldn't produce any more puppies ???

When we got Lulu in early January, her list of neglect was fairly long...

Lulu was coughing  first diagnosed with pneumonia, two luxated patellas, a old pelvic fracture (HOW did that happen??), parasites, and an enlarged heart - so on top of several vet visits, she ALSO went to see a cardiologist. OH...and she was did I mention she was pregnant when they planned to euthanize her for being too SICK? Soo..that adorable puppy (you see pictured below) ..would have been killed with her. Thankfully we committed to taking them and were able to save her too (baby Izzy).

At the cardilogist appointment, it was also determined that Lulu had a collapsed trachea and narrowing bronchial airways ..meaning the coughing was not coming from heart disease but lung/airway issues.  The description I Was given to desribe her air way was "pencil thin" - making SPAY, Dental work...anything with anesthesia a much greater risk due to potential complications with BREATHING while under. She was then put on yet another medication for Asthma/cough (which she had done since we got her, but due to nursing there really wasn't much we could do without potentially harming the baby). Then, Lulu's eye started to weep and look infected.  Another several vet visits, eye meds, serums...while trying to treat her eyes, Lulu started with diarrhea and bloody vomit.  She was immediaely taken to the vet and determined to have pancreatitis!!!  Lulu was admitted to the vet for many days for IV fluids, antibiotics, meds needed to treat her struggling little body.  Meantime, the eye is getting WORSE and Worse.  Upon discharge from the hospital - it was very obvious that Lulu's cough was much much worse that ever.  Honking, deep , harsh coughing fits now plague this sweet girl who is, at this point, quite lethargic and looking pained.  I am starting to notice the light seems to be gone from her eyes...she's no longer jumping up from her playpen to greet my mom, her foster.  Lulu is still struggling.
We decided to take Lulu to VSEC for a specialty consult to try to give her quality of life and help with the horrible coughing.  She also saw an eye specialist, who , much to our surpise, said the eye was ruptured and needed to come OUT!!!! NOW she needs enucleation?? How much can one dog go through?

The doctor suggested doing the eye removal at their specialty practice so we an montior her breathing and heart closley while under (let's not forget she is high risk) - they also want to do a bronchoscopy - look down her throat with a scope and find out what is really going on and possibly determine WHAT is wrong and why she is coughing in order to maye help alleviate or ease some of her discomfort.

We are scheduled for Wednesday, 5/3. As you can imagine, this adds up quickly.  She has been to the vet so many times. We are a small , local mom and pop shop rescue who pushes as much as we an to save lives, but this kind of expense is far beyond our capacity with no grants or funding.  The vet /pancreatitis visit was $1,000. Cardiologist was $500. Specialist was $165. The procedure Wednesday is $3,000.
The many , many meds she has been on, the tests bloodwork..its all just too much to handle financially and emotionally.  That's where we hope you can come in as our rescue family!!!  We need your donations and prayers!!!Poor Lulu has always been uncared for, unvetted, not loved or even pet by a kind, gentle hand...her only purpose has been to nurse babies and make money. She has done her job...she even cared for Izzy in such a sick state , knowing that was her job - but once Izzy left, Luly fell apart immediately.  It's as if she leg herself go, knowing that Izzy could go on without her and that her job was done.

It is now LULU's turn!! Her turn to be happy!! Her turn to enjoy life and feel loved!! Her suffering MUST end and it ends with us!!!  Please help us take care of her and give her QUALITY of life!! We want to see Lulu run ! Play! Bring the light back to Lulu's eyes.  They look so defeated and sad and I just can't take that ...that's not acceptable in this rescue! Lulu deserves to be happy ~ Not in pain , not suffering, not caring for anyone else but herself!!

We are asking...no begging, you for help in order to keep our rescue afloat and give her all that she will need. Tallulah and Lulu are the next two who need you!!

Please help us on our fight against puppy mills!! Together we can make a huge impact on the lives of these precious souls!!

PLEASE show Luly some LOVE!

EVERY LIFE MATTERS!!

Thank you!!
