REQUEST TO FINANCIALLY SUPPORT THE FUNERAL AND BURIAL EXPENSES OF YOLANDA SHYNELL COLLINS WRIGHT, INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA

It is with great humility, the Family of the late Yolanda Shynell Collins Wright requests financial support to provide a proper and dignified funeral and burial for a young woman who vigorously fought breast cancer for more than seven years.  Given the aggressive nature of metastatic cancer which ultimately (totally) impaired Yolanda’s ability to sustain mobility, work and continue her livelihood as a professional social worker, she lost her source of income, health insurance coverage and exhausted the family’s savings.  The family respectfully asks for support from persons who identify with this cause to please make contributions to the Collins Wright Family.  Each day we realize the devastating impact, physical and emotional pain associated with a cancer diagnosis and how the disease can adversely affect persons without regard to social and economic conditions.
For seven years, Yolanda Shynell Collins Wright, known as a professional bridge builder within the social services network of Indianapolis, Indiana, battled with dignity and grace metastasis breast cancer. On Friday, June 8, 2018, Yolanda passed away after confronting daily excruciating pain. Although, Yolanda become immobile due to the spread of cancer during 2017, she remained in good spirit and even celebrated her 45th birthday while hospitalized just 3 days prior to her passing.  Throughout her life’s journey, Yolanda touched many lives and made tremendous impact through her affiliations with numerous organizations, including cancer support organizations, such as the Cancer Support Community, Sisters Network, and the Pink Ribbon Association.  She became a renowned advocate traveling across the nation promoting issues of cancer awareness and prevention.  After receiving the Bachelor of Science in Political Science/Legal Administration from Ball State University, she continued her studies at IUPUI, Indiana University and graduated in 2014 with the Master’s of Science in Social Work, while in the midst of battling cancer.  As a community servant, Yolanda was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Indianapolis Alumnae Chapter.

Those of you who were acquainted with Yolanda understood her tenacity to chronicle her thoughts.  One of the notes the family wishes to share with you in hopes it will offer Blessings and provide a deeper understanding of how devastating and debilitating metastatic cancer can become:

Final Words as penned by Yolanda Collins Wright:
"Giving honor and recognition to My Lord, without whom I could do nothing and would be nothing! He has allowed me to go through this battle smelling like a rose (and trust me, my struggle has been and is real, and He always showed His face to let me know He was there). I clearly know I should not look like this, be enduring and persevering like this; BUT GOD! He gave me a story to tell in hopes of giving others HOPE in the midst of their challenges, whatever they be".  (May 2018)

Funeral Arrangements are currently underway with the Crown Hill Funeral Home in charge.
