40,000 kilometers in memory of a wonderful son, dad, brother, husband and friend

KICK OFF ACTIVITY: BEN AND LOUISA RUN OXFORD HALF MARATHON

Chris Hancock was someone who stood out from the pack. He was one of those people who was just easy to be with. He was fun. He was intelligent. And he was very successful. He had a lust for life that was contagious, and he was one of those people that just made your day feel better if you had just spent a little time with him.

Sadly, in July 2023 Chris decided to take his own life.

Such was the impact that he had on those that knew him that his passing will leave an unfillable void. But we all want to do something to honor his memory.

"Loving the world for hanx" is a fundraiser set up by his friends and family to raise money for HiS, a not-for-profit organization that focuses on mental health for men. The first reaction of many of his friends when they heard of Chris’s passing was "not him - it's not possible". But sadly, this is the case for many men in his age group.

Males aged between 50 to 54 have the highest suicide rate in the UK (22.5 for every 100, 000).

The sad truth is that this could happen to anyone. We all have our breaking point.

The HiS charity focusses on the needs of men who are suffering from mental health issues and sets out to provide practical and emotional support as well as a host of wellness tools to help cater for the specific needs of men who are suffering from anxiety and depression.

Chris was an avid traveler and toured the world in his youth. In his memory his friends and family aim to run, walk, ski, swim, cycle – travel by any non-motorized means possible - 40,000km. We want to achieve this objective because it’s equivalent to the circumference of the equator and a gentle reminder of Chris’s love for adventure and discovery.

Ben and Louisa, his much-loved son and eldest daughter will kick off proceedings with the Oxford half marathon. They will be donning their Nikes to pound 13 miles of Oxford concrete in memory of their much loved father.

We plan to set up a blog to keep you informed of new fundraising activities, with an update of the "Loving the world for Chris" mileage. We will update this webpage with the URL in the near future.

But for now.... please give generously for Louisa and Ben. Thirteen miles is a long way!!!

More information about HiS help information support: We are a male mental health charity that work with young males from keystage 2 and adults throughout the south of England. We provide a total wrap around service to enable individuals to feel held in a safe understanding environment. We work from the heart and independently making the service client led, rather then ending sessions at 15 weeks.
