Loving our Syrian Neighbors
Donation protected
"... and Jesus concluded, “In your opinion, which one of these three acted like a neighbor toward the man attacked by the robbers?”
The teacher of the Law answered, “The one who showed him mercy."
Jesus replied, 'You go, then, and do the same.' "
My name is Jon Cunningham and I am a youth pastor in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. On April 2nd, I will be embarking on a journey with an organization called "The Nations" to love, serve, and learn from our Syrian neighbors in Jordan.
The frequent, unimaginable violence raging in Syria has left many of our neighbors scattered throughout the Middle East seeking safety as refugees. In the once small town of Mafraq, just across the southern border of Jordan, over 80,000 Syrians have found safety; however, with such a large influx of refugees and limited resources, our Syrian neighbors are struggling to survive there.
In the midst of all the chaos, a local group has risen to the challenge of trying to meet immediate and long term needs of their new Syrian neighbors. Their work is difficult but their passion and drive to love others is winning. During our time in Mafraq, we will be working with this group to provide food and other necessities for refugees and to provide relief for the group's long-term volunteers and workers.
We realize that our team will only be in Jordan for two weeks and that we will provide a very small piece of very temporary relief to a complex and long term effort. That being said, our intention is that this trip would not be the end of our engagement with the refugee community. We hope that through our time working with and learning from our Syrian neighbors, we will be more fully equipped to engage and build meaningful relationships with middle-eastern refugees here in Oklahoma City.
I need to raise around $3,000 to make this trip a reality and every gift is appreciated! The funds will be used for airfare, lodging, and supplies, and anything over my goal will be donated to relief effors in Mafraq!
Thank in advance for your financial support and for your prayers!
