Loving memory of Dennis LaMar Listenbee
Life Story of Dennis Lamar Listenbee
Dennis Lamar Listenbee, the oldest of seven children born to the late Willard and Mary Bell Listenbee, was born on September 28, 1953, in New Albany, Mississippi. Raised in the New Zion Baptist Church and
Beloit Community, Dennis was a vital member of his large family and worked hard day-in and day-out until the time of death.
Dennis graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1972 and later attended Madison Area Technical
College, where he earned his Associate of Arts Degree in Cosmetology.
After graduating from high school, Dennis moved to the west coast and lived in Long Beach, California, for
several years. Upon relocating back to Wisconsin, Dennis settled in Madison, when he lived for more than
40 years. Dennis accepted Christ at an early age at New Zion Baptist Church in Beloit, then under the leadership of Rev. U. S. Pride. In Madison, Dennis was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he served
faithfully as a member of the Usher Board. Dennis worked as a custodial engineer for more than 30 years at Memorial High School (Madison, WI), until his retirement. Even after, Dennis worked for National car rental and Costco.
Dennis was a hardworking man all his life. He adored his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed creating great memories with his family. He was always just a call away, loved to hear what people had to say and be
there to listen or provide guidance. He was more than just a friend, brother and father, the thing most
admired about him is that he made up his mind and he stood his ground. He was as solid as they come. A pure
gentleman, always there and always kind. Loved to travel but couldn’t stand airplanes and its ok because he didn’t need them to be fly. Let’s talk about his style for a moment. This man could dress when he wanted to, equipped with tilted hat, unbuttoned shirt and don’t forget to pop his collar. A man of style and grace he will always be remembered. If he could tell us one thing right now he would say “Don’t be sad for me, I’m riding my motorcycle in Heaven now”.
Dennis leaves to mourn his passing, as well as cherish many memories: Four daughters – Carmell, Tyonna and Willow of Madison; Abby of Atlanta, GA; and his son, Akil, of Upper Marlboro, MD. His grandchildren include Damani, Latavious, Kaliyah, Kingston, Gia, Chyla and great grandson Kendrick. In addition, he leaves his two sisters: Linda Listenbee of Tampa, FL, and Dorothy (Charles) Evans of Beloit, WI. His four brothers include: Terry (Felecia) of DeSoto, TX; Joseph Listenbee, Sr.(Debbie), of Dallas, TX; Ulton (Malinda) of Madison, AL, and Michael (Kari). Lastly, he leaves a host of relatives and friends.
