Loving Man Killed by Drunk Driver, Lacy Family

It is with a heavy heart that we share this post. This week, the life of our family member, Rufus Lacy, was taken away from us - stolen by a drunk driver. He was a loving big brother, son, cousin and very hard working man - he loved working with his hands (which he'd always tell you about).

He was cycling on his way home after a day of work and being with friends, but he never made it. He loved biking as he would say it gave him flexibility and was also a healthy activity. We always prayed for his safely on the roads. When he left that day and said 'See you later,' we never knew it would be the last time we spoke to him. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the car that struck and killed Rufus was found to be under the influence of alcohol and charged with a DWI.

Rufus was hilarious - he never ran out of jokes and could be trusted to put a smile on your face, even after the toughest of days. Although he was born in North Carolina, he spent much of his adult years in Philadelphia and thus, was a die-hard Philly city fan - Eagles, Phillies and 76ers. Although they didn't have the most winning seasons, you knew better than to trash talk his teams - it would be on!

Rufus always put family first and moved back to NC a few years ago to be closer to family. He leaves behind a mom, siblings and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and close friends. He was known to everyone as a cool spirit that didn't take life too seriously and could be relied on to always show up and give a helping hand.

We are creating this fund to allow those that love him and the family a way to show support. Foremost we ask for you to keep us in your thoughts and lifted in prayer. We know that there is a long road ahead as we fight for justice for Rufus and adjust to life without his presence.
