Lovin' on Lucy

Hi everyone!
My name is Cecelia! My husband Dennis and I are starting this fundraiser with the hopes to help cover a portion of our puppy abrupt medical journey.
On May 26th, 2023, our life was completely changed in the best way possible when we decided to add a new pup to our pack! We named her Lucy! After a very special show I always watched with two very important people to me. She quickly had my husband and I wrapped around her tiny paw! Lucy set off to win the heart of so many people including family and friends and honestly complete strangers with her Stucky personality and "Bambi" like looks. I've owned dogs my entire life but there was something special about this 1.5-pound fur ball.
Well, our lives completely derailed Thursday (Sept 28th) when our heathy baby woke up screaming in pain! We rushed her to our vet to be told that she needed to be rushed to the University of Illinois Veterinary hospital to be evaluated by their neuro specialists.
We arrived there for her to be swept off into the back screaming in pain. Our hearts at this point were shattered. Lucy was seen and tested by the head neuro team to comclude that the team needed an MRI to find out the cause of this pain. We quickly agreed to the MRI, anything for answers on why our poor baby was in such pain.
At this point Lucy was stabilized and resting comfortably with the help of some heavy meds. She seemed to be showing strides of improvement and with the permission of her team we took her home that night with a strict regimen of pain meds and low impact movement. We needed to protect her head basically because that is where the team pinpointed the pain. Lucy came home and with some grogginess and slow movements started to come back to life. We soaked up every second knowing Monday was her appointment for her MRI.
To make matters much worse we put Lucy to bed Friday night to be woken up about an hour latter to her blood curdling screams. We tried to comfort her thinking she was having a hard time with the nighttime dosage of her pain meds but after a few episodes of the screaming, aggresive behavior, and urinating her bed we decided to rush her to the emergency vet closest to us.
Once we arrived at the vet, we were greeted with nurses wide eyed faces regarding Lucys situation. We were informed that they didn't have the tech needed to support the needs she had at this point. They advised us to go back to the university's emergency room. Hearing the nurse tell us she could pass at any moment of our 2-hour car ride crushed every part of us. But he had to give her that hope and chance, so we nervously started the trek to the university. 20 minutes away from the emergency room she stared having a hard time breathing and we rallied together trying to keep her holding on.
With the grace of god, we made it to the emergency room, and she was rushed in and stabilized. We spent some time with her trying to explain to our baby we were not leaving her there because we wanted to but because we had to. Walking out of there without her wrecked us. But the nursing staff promised the best care possible for Lucy.
We currently are awaiting her Monday MRI testing to find out what we are dealing with.
As you can imagine we already are in the realm of $1,000's of dollars getting her to this point and we haven't even scratched the surface of the costs in our future.
Den and I are pretty reasonable people BUT this baby hasn't even had a chance at life yet. Watching people's reactions and teary eyes when they hear her young age. I mean she's 7 nonths old! How could something so small inure so much. Shes fighting as if her life depends on it and so are we. She deserves a chance at a long life. God willing, that is what we are going to do! We know everyone has so many things going on and rising costs for pretty much LIFE! We have no clue what her future will bring but we are bringing the fight, so this sweet girl gets a chance at life. A life she deserves! So please don't feel obligated, but any little amount helps us on this journey with our girl. Thank you for taking the time to read this. It slowly became a book but to know Lucy is to love this girl and I couldnt help but want to share her complete journey with you!
