Over the past few years Eric & Susan both lost their jobs staying by their daughters side.  Susan has worked as a registered nurse.  Recently both Eric and Susan were able to return to work.  On Susans first day of her new job as a school nurse, their home was burglarized and vandalized.  After all they have been through Eric and Susan are now faced with over $3,000.00 in insurance deductibles among other needed funds.  It's time these two amazing people get some relief.  I will post the news story below.  Please consider giving and sharing this story.  God bless and thank you.

Story from WDHN News:
"They had pretty much ransacked the house, and it's just so disheartening to know that somebody would come in and violate your safe place,” said Susan Jernigan.

The Jernigans stayed with friends Monday night while working out some maintenance issues. Eric Jernigan made the discovery the next morning: their home was completely trashed, with shelves slammed to the ground and the TV, an X-Box and other electronics were stolen. Threatening graffiti was written in the living room and kitchen. Their camera, which was used to take photos of a major milestone, was also stolen.

"I immediately busted out crying, and then I felt guilty, because I had not taken the time to download the pictures on the computer. That was definitely the hardest: not being able to have her three-year-old birthday pictures,” Susan Jernigan said.

Their three-year-old daughter, Emma Kate, requires 24-hour care. She was born three months early in August 2012, weighing only 15 ounces. Eric and Susan both lost their jobs while spending 20 months with her at Children's of Alabama in Birmingham. For the last year and a half, caring for Emma Kate has been a full time job.

"It's not just a 'grab a bag, grab some clothes and just go,' we have to make sure she has oxygen, take her ventilator, take all of her food, all of the syringes that go along with feeding her through her tube, and all of her medicines. She's on about 11 medicines," said Susan.

This all adds to their concerns of how to fix floor and mold damage from recent leaks, and now after the burglary, how to pay for more than $3,000.00 in insurance deductibles.

“They've not only disrupted us, you know, and upset us, but they've also disrupted her, and hurt her. It's a very tough thing,” said Susan, about the changes Emma Kate has endured since the burglary.

Both Jernigans are now working, picking up the pieces and trying to move forward. "We're very blessed that we're all safe, and that we can't be replaced. Everything else can, but what matters is the three of us, and that's really all that matters."

There is still no word on any potential burglary suspects. If you would like to the Jernigans in any way, you can visit their Facebook page called "God's Blessing: Emma Kate."
