Lovelock Correctional Center Memorial Wall
Donation protected
After dedicating 28 years of her life and her entire career to the Lovelock Correctional Center, Mrs. Kelly Belanger passed away suddenly last month. After joining the department, many of us built a foundation by spending our early years learning from her. Over her many years in Unit 4A, she frequently dealt with the worst behaviors yet despite this exposure, she maintained optimism and chose to invest her own time teaching Commitment to Change for SLP members in the hope that her influence might be a catalyst for positive change.
In the 20 years that LCC has operated, an untold number of individuals have passed through the gatehouse on their way to/from work while providing a public service to our state. We all leave the gatehouse expecting to return for our next shift but sometimes, life has other plans.
Kelly’s sudden passing caused many of us to reflect on her contribution and on others we’ve lost from our LCC family. We agreed while they are gone, they should not be forgotten.
To that end, we have approval to create and maintain a Memorial Wall within the institution. This wall will have a plaque to recognize each member of our LCC family who has passed while actively working here. It will serve as a place for all of us to remember those we’ve lost and for those passing through LCC to understand the impact they each made during their time here.
Each plaque will cost around $150, and we will need several to recognize those we’ve already lost. Any excess funds will be donated to the Correctional Peace Officer Foundation, a national, non-profit charitable organization that aids correctional staff in times of need.
