HELP SECURE A NEW HOME FOR RAKSHA CHILDREN
In 2015 a devastating earthquake left Nepal in ruins. As a result of the earthquake, thousands of homes were deemed as no longer livable; among them was one of Nepal’s children’s shelters, Raksha. This shelter has been an advocate, protector, and home for underage victims of predatory crimes, abandonment, and emotional exploitation for over 10 years. Not only does this shelter do incredible good, but without it, these survivors wouldn’t have a safe haven to call home. And now Raksha needs our help to rebuild this center.
Jane recently partnered with the Elizabeth Smart Foundation to support shelters like Raksha that assist in the recovery and aftercare of victims. Mike and Megan McEwan, the founders of Jane, traveled to Nepal with the Elizabeth Smart Foundation to meet the people from Raksha and see firsthand the work they’re doing. While they were at the shelter, they met children and youth who have suffered the unthinkable, but have been able to recover in a safe environment thanks to Raksha.
Children taken into Raksha’s care are given a caring family-like environment, psychosocial counseling, nutrition, medical care, tutoring, and reintegration into the public-school system. Moona, one of the children at Raksha, says, “Raksha gave me a big and beautiful family. I am always thankful to Raksha for helping me to recognize who I am.”
Thanks to these resources, the children at the shelter have been given a second chance and hope for the future. Many of these children aspire to be nurses or doctors one day, so they can give back and help other survivors of predatory crimes.
While we wish we could eliminate these tragedies completely, we stand committed to create opportunities for them to heal, thrive, and move on to become the resilient, talented, and dignified members of society they already are. This all starts with ensuring a safe new home to get them back on their feet.
Jane will match any donations made up to $100,000. We invite you to join the Jane community by making a contribution as we work towards making this milestone happen!
Funds donated are sent directly to Jane LLC's company account and then sent to the Elizabeth Smart Foundation. The Elizabeth Smart Foundation is then in charge of delivering those funds to Raksha.
