Hi Everyone,
I'm normally not a Go Fund Me type of person, but when I see my family struggling, I feel compelled to help. My very good friend and cousin-in-law's eight month old son, Logan is battling a very bad case of intussuception. For those who don't know, this is generally considered one of the most common abdominal emergencies affecting children under 2 years old. It happens when one portion of the bowel slides into the next, like a telescope.
When this happens, the flow of fliuds and food through the bowel can become blocked, causing bleeding, and eventually cutting off the blood supply off to the affected part of the intestine. Logan's intusseception was discovered when he began having bowel movements consisting of only blood.
He was rushed to Bay State Hospital, where the doctors performed two air enemas, and eventual surgery to address the intusseception. Most babies make a full recovery after receiving the surgery, but unfortunately for little Logan, he is still very sick, and the doctors are stumped.
He received additional CT scans, but the results have all come back inconclusive. He has been in the pediatric intensive care unit for a full month, as of today's date. His mom, Kayli, is a new RN who spends her days with Logan, and her husband Trevor is a police officer. His department members have all been incredible during this difficult time, but it looks like Logan is going to spend another month in the ICU, to give his little body some time to heal before undergoing additional procedures.
With Kayli unable to work and Trevor traveling 100 miles per day to be near them, all while trying to keep some sense of normalcy for their other 3 year old son, Owen, I'm really hoping my network of friends and family will show them some support. I can't imagine what they are going through, except to say that watching your child go through something so difficult must be the most heart-wrenchng experience for any parent.
I'm asking those of you who have been through any kind of digestive or gastrointestinal issues, or if you know anyone who has, to consider donating to this very worthy cause. The money will go directly to my family to help them cover the costs of hospital bills, food, and other necessities.
Thank you so much!
Kristen
