The idea of Love for Levi originated last year when we had the intention of doing something special for 'Supernatural' actor Jensen Ackles that we could present to him in person that would show him how much we appreciate everything he does.
Something Jensen has been very passionate about and dedicated to over the years is the Down Syndrome Guild of Dallas, as Jensen's nephew Levi was born with Down syndrome. The DSG of Dallas helps to support children with Down syndrome as well as provide resources to their family and friends. As I read more about Down syndrome while raising money for the cause, it touched my heart even more deeply than I had expected.
We ended up raising a grand total of $4,325 this past year and had over 150 people contribute to the Love for Levi fundraiser. We created 2 scrapbooks that were given to Jensen (that looked a lot like John Winchester's journals) from those who contributed as well. Jensen looked genuinely happy and touched, and the smile on his face said it all. We hope to make him feel the same way again this year, as well as make a huge difference in people's lives. This year we've set our goal at $5,000, as we're hoping to beat last year's total.
Please note that GoFundMe does have a few small fees associated with donations (as most fundraising websites do), but because I don't want to take away from the cause, I'm going to contribute the money to each donation made to make up for those fees. None of the proceeds will go towards fundraising materials (e.g. website costs, etc.); all fundraising materials will be paid for out of my own pocket the same way they were last year.
Any donations that are made will be presented to Jensen at SPN MinnCon 2017. Please see our website for additional details on the plan we have in mind.
