Please help with Isabelle Lynn's medical expenses.
On May 31st, 2016, two and half year old Isabelle Lynn was diagnosed with Late Infantile Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD). MLD is a degenerative disease of the white matter of the brain. Currently, there is no cure for MLD. Possible treatments for MLD are a stem cell transplant or a bone marrow transplant. However, doctors have yet to determine whether Isabelle will be a viable candidate for either of these treatments.
As with all children stricken with this disease, Isabelle developed normally, hitting all of her developmental milestones until several months ago. Isabelle walked, talked, played, and carried on like every healthy toddler. Several months ago, Isabelle began regressing, slowing losing her ability to run and eventually walking became a challenge. In addition, Isabelle is losing the ability to swallow efficiently and is losing her language skills. Isabelle’s disease is progressing quickly.
According the MLD Foundation, “Late Infantile (MLD) is characterized by normal development the first 6-18 months followed by a progressive regression that shows first in motor skills, perhaps never learning to walk, or showing a deterioration of balance. The regression will rapidly affect speech, overall mobility, and basic cognitive skills. Often the muscles will painfully cramp up (rigidity), and feeding requires a G-tube or J-tube directly to the digestive system. Paralysis and blindness are often reported with a prognosis of 1-2 years, although today's care usually extends that period to 5-7 years after diagnosis.”
Isabelle loves flowers and playing outside. Her favorite thing was going down the slide with her five year old sister. Now, Isabelle loves to roll on the grass and just be outside in the sunshine. Isabelle loves animals, especially dogs and cats. She loves chocolate, when she’s allowed to have a treat. Isabelle loves to listen to music, not just children’s music- grown-up music too, and to dance in the living room. Isabelle’s favorite movie is Home and her favorite show is Mickey Mouse Club House, she used to talk about Mickey all time. She loves to sing the Itsy Bitsy Spider, If You’re Happy and You Know it Clap Your Hands, and play Ring Around the Rosie. She loves books, Elmo, bubbles, and even brushing her teeth. Isabelle loves her dolls has to have her special blanket to sleep. Before she started showing symptoms, Isabelle could count and knew some letters but, not anymore.
Isabelle is the daughter of Patrick Lynn, originally from Dennis Township New Jersey, and Nikki Norwood of Bar Harbor Maine. The couple currently resides in Ellsworth Maine. Patrick and Nikki need our help. The expenses that are already being incurred to care for a terminally ill child are astronomical. As they begin to navigate the confusing and challenging maze of doctor appointments, medical testing and procedures, out of state visits to specialists, insurance red-tape, and heart wrenching decisions, finances should not have to weigh on their minds.
Please consider donating to this young couple in need.
Any donation, large or small, will be greatly appreciated and will be used to support Isabelle and her family.
Please hold your children close and be thankful for your blessings; tomorrow is a gift.
