Hello Family and Friends of Bob Brosmer! As you all know, Bob suffered a pretty sever stroke Easter morning 2014 and has been working diligently with his therapists, Kim, and on his own to recover his ability to communicate well enough to go back to work. His personal goal is to work for the YMCA of Central Maryland again in some meaningful capacity. While he has made tremendous progress over the past year and a half, he still has a way to go to before he is ready to return --The key to his reaching his goal is receiving as many therapy sessions as possible.
One of Bob's therapists Cindy recently wrote to Kim, "As everyone knows, he has certainly done his part to regain his skills as much as he can. In my more than 30 years of treating clients with aphasia, I've never come across anyone who is more determined to return to his best and follows up with diligent practice of what we give him to work on at home. He's very goal-driven, but I feel strongly that he needs to be working toward a real goal, not just one to keep him busy."
Her evaluation is what gave me the idea to launch a "gofundme" campaign this year in lieu of our 20-year tradition of anonymously "adopting" a needy family and providing a nice Christmas for them.
Also, many of you have asked if Bob and Kim need any financial help. Bob, being the type of provider he is, made sure he had plenty of insurance in case of something like this, however, insurance has ridiculous limits to the amount of therapy someone in Bob's position can receive in any given calendar year. Therefore, Bob and Kim are paying out-of-pocket for the much-needed additional therapy. (Various therapies cost between $75 - $250 per hour.)
Over the years, Bob & Kim have generously given to many causes and mentored young people in need. They've certainly PAID IT FORWARD!
Knowing Bob as well as I know him, I've always been in awe of how he is able to overcome substantial obstacles and meet the various life-goals he's set for himself. I'm sure that when we give our gift of therapy to Bob at Christmastime, it will show our complete confidence in his ability to achieve what is possibly his most important goal ever.
Mom (Jessica McClain) and I have started the fund off with $500 each. Thank you, thank you, thank you for whatever you can contribute - this is an easy-breezy way to do it. Much love to you alll!
(We are keeping this a surprise from Bob & Kim but will include everyone when it's time to present them the gift.)
