We all know and love Katy Waasdorp, we have all experienced the time, love, and commitment she pours into our children. Katy has served both Inyo and Mono counties children for 30 years, she has owned and operated her family childcare business for 25 years, worked in the local preschools, and worked for the special need’s community in both counties for 5 years.

On September 8th, 2021, Katy Waasdorp’s family childcare business was forcibly closed by the state of California, Department of Social Services (DSS). Her Business was closed and cited for allegedly violating COVID-19 protocols.

The allegations include:

• Cited 9/2/2021: Not masking 2- and 3-year infants and toddlers in her care. (Attempted to mail in correction 9/3/2021)

• On 6/15/2021 she was cited for COVID restrictions ending for allowing her to care for 5 extra children during COVID. (She was never advised that this protocol had changed, and she could no longer care for these children. Plan of correction was made on 6/16/2021.)

These allegations have caused her to lose her only source of income. Due to allegations brought against her, Katy has had to hire an attorney to represent her against these charges. We are looking to raise $15,000 to assist her with this unexpected financial burden. If we surpass the amount that we are looking to raise, we would like to donate the rest of the money to host a coat and shoe drive for the kids that she regularly does care for. She will not be able to pay for the jackets, and shoes that children need out of her own pocket this year. She has done this in the past to get the children what they need for the upcoming winter.

It can take up to 45 days to receive a hearing from the state of California Department of Social Services (DSS). Katy will be out of business and not be able to provide for herself or her family, she has a special needs son that she also supports financially when he needs it.
