Loved not abandoned: an album of refugee songs

Have you heard the refugees in Bangkok sing?

Sometimes in the afternoon, after the bustle of visitors to the Immigration Detention Centre has gone, you can hear them. Men, maybe hundreds of men inside singing with strong and beautiful voices, harmony and rhythm.

Sometimes late at night, behind locked doors in small top floor apartments, groups of men and women gather to sing songs, beautiful but restrained in their hiding places.

Sometimes riding public transport or waiting in line for medicine a refugee child will be singing to themselves, lost in wonder and imagination their words of praise unrecognised by most people around them.

Refugees are singing... psalms of praise and lament, calls to worship and prayer, songs of hope and joy.

Bangkok is home to over 7,000 refugees but they are regarded as illegal immigrants and live in fear of arrest and detention for years while they hope and pray for justice and freedom.

Many refugees are amazing musicians and this group of Refugees supporting Refugees in Bangkok plan to record and produce an album of songs in 5 different languages.

Making this album together benefits the refugees in Bangkok by providing a source of joy working together and making music that praises God who sustains and protects them through these uncertain times. The refugees hope that the  album of songs that they produce will bring encouragement and hope to millions of others  around the world.
